Janet
has to be a bit crazy. She called me a couple weeks ago to tell
me about her vision for spreading a message of environmental
awareness through
programs
in
schools as well as community clean-up events.
She wanted a web site and help with email communications.
But Janet had two strikes against her. One, she didn’t
have enough money to pay for a web site. And, two, she has terminal
breast
cancer. She thinks she has a couple good years left before she will
be too ill to do anything.
Janet
wanted to do something of significance in the time she has left,
something that would communicate her values and
continue
after she was gone. You would think someone in Janet's situation
morose or depressed. Instead, janet has a genuine interest in others
and a winsome lightheartedness.
Last
weekend she had a Kick Off party at the Mercury Café in
downtown Denver. As I saw the many people at the gathering I knew
I made a good decision to build a web site for her. There
were so many hugs and expressions of affection.
Janet
left Denver on last Tuesday and spent this past weekend in
Columbia, Missouri, doing television interviews and participating
in a community clean up. Her companion is Luke,
a white standard poodle,
who will travel with her and participate in her programs in schools
and help out with the community clean up. One of the programs is
called “Luke Hates Litter.” My daughters were smitten
with him.
As you
go about your day I’d
encourage you to look for opportunities to help people like Janet.
Even before she’s done a single program I feel
