Dear {FIRST_NAME},

Okay, I finally jumped on the Twitter train. I’ve never understood what the big deal was until recently. I took some training and began understanding its value for my business, as well as for our clients.

I thought of one client especially and emailed him about it. This was his response:

“Right out of the box ... I'm not big on it. It seems like a massive self-indulgence to me. Do I care what Ashton Kutcher had for lunch? What Paris Hilton chose for her new nail color? How traffic is for Shaq on the 405? Or is there something I'm missing?”

I can understand why he felt that way. There’s a perception Twitter is only for vain people or teenagers with their faces buried in their cell phones. However, it’s not.

Here are some benefits of using Twitter for us non-celebrities:

One, connect with people on a more human level. You could tweet on the things important to you outside of business, such as the Broncos or Juvenile Diabetes. It would help you connect with others who have a similar interest. One tweet from the other day said, “I need to go back on vacation, what a crappy start to my week ugh.” Can you relate?

Two, use your network to connect to resources. I recently tweeted about needing a quote on translating a client’s site into Spanish. One of my followers forwarded my tweet onto someone he knew who does translation, and we put together a bid.

Three, learn new things. Besides sending out tweets, you can learn a lot by following others in your industry. I follow several people in my industry and usually go to three or four URLs a day in my Twitter account.

Four, you can go viral. One of the most powerful things about Twitter is the retweet. This is when someone forwards your tweet to all of the people following him. For example, a friend of mine has almost 11,000 people following him. He could retweet one of my tweets and it goes out to 11,000 people. And then some of those people would retweet his retweet. You could conceivably reach tens of thousand of people with your message in a few hours.

I would encourage you to consider at least setting up a Twitter account (if you haven’t already). If you don’t feel comfortable tweeting yet, just start following some folks for a while to see what it’s like. Then give it a shot yourself.

I’m in the midst of putting together some workshops on different aspects of Internet marketing, starting with Twitter. I would host it and have a buddy of mine do the presentation. I’ll send out info when I’ve put together the details. In the meantime, you can find me at twitter.com/greenchair.

JUST FOR GRINS: Automated Traffic Tickets

A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that; measured his speed using radar and photographed his car. He later received in the mail a ticket for $40 and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40. Several days later, he received a letter from the police that contained another picture, this time of handcuffs. He immediately mailed in his $40.

SERVICE HIGHLIGHT:
Web Site Maintenance

We've been doing a lot of web site maintenance this year. Our clients email us the changes, we make them, and then bill them on a bi-monthly basis. This allows them to have updated content, as well as spend time on their business rather than trying to figure out the web. If the changes are more extensive, we give an estimate.

If you're having difficulties with your webmaster or are tired of making your own changes, get in touch with us at 720-922-3124.
