Focus--The Future of Your Company Depends on It
By Al Ries
This is one of my new favorite books. I'm so impressed by the amount of examples of companies that did and didn't focus. Focusing your company helps you put your energy, expertise and financing into moving forward. Those companies that diversified too much are learning now that wasn't such a hot idea.

Bird by Bird

If you aspire to be a writer or become a better writer, this is an excellent book. LaMott takes the courses she teaches on writing and puts it in narrative form.

Traveling Mercies
By Anne LaMott
These are biographical essays about how one woman reluctantly incorporated spiritual aspects to her life. It is very funny and touching.

Tipping Point
By Malcolm Gladwell
Much of this book originally appeared as essays in the New Yorker. It's a good instructional book on why trends for good and bad appear. The author contends that just a little push or change can tip a trend to grow in influence and impact.

101 Creative Problem Solving Techniques

A Whack on the Side of the Head
by Roger von Oech
von Oech is the king of creativity. In this book he takes a swipe at the 10 mental locks people often put on themselves in the creative process.

A Kick in the Seat of the Pants
by Roger von Oech
In this book, von Oech takes a look at the different roles in the creative process. This process is often stunted when you judge ideas too early or are never willing to fight for an idea. The four roles he speaks of is the Explorer (gatherer of information), Artist (manipulator of information), Judge (judging if an idea is a good one and how it could be improved), and Warrior (fighting for an idea by selling it to the decisionmakers).
